Overview

Nestled in the bustling enclave of Taman Connaught, Cheras, 嬌姊客家釀豆腐 • Kiow Jie Hakka Yong Taufu offers a genuine taste of traditional Hakka Chinese cuisine. This humble yet inviting Chinese restaurant is known for its signature stuffed tofu, a delicacy that captures the essence of Hakka culinary heritage with every bite.

The star attraction, as the name suggests, is the Yong Taufu—silky tofu expertly stuffed with a well-seasoned blend of minced pork and herbs, then fried to a perfect golden crisp. This dish balances texture and flavor beautifully, embodying the rustic charm and homely touch typical of Hakka cooking. Complementing the main offerings are a variety of fried snacks such as spring rolls, oyster treats, and traditional fu chok, all prepared with attention to preserving authentic taste and quality.

The menu also features standout specialties like vinegar pig trotters, which combine a tangy depth with tender meat, showcasing the restaurant’s skill in slow cooking that enhances traditional flavors. To cleanse the palate, customers can enjoy refreshing beverages like ginseng chrysanthemum tea or water chestnut sugarcane—a nod to medicinal and seasonal influences deeply rooted in Chinese food culture.

The atmosphere at Kiow Jie is casual and comfortable, perfect for families, friends, and those seeking an authentic, unpretentious dining experience away from the city’s fast pace. Located just off Jalan Waras 1, it is accessible yet feels like a small oasis of Hakka culinary tradition amid Kuala Lumpur’s urban sprawl.

In sum, Kiow Jie Hakka Yong Taufu serves more than just food; it offers a connection to heritage through carefully crafted dishes, making it a noteworthy destination for anyone eager to explore real regional Chinese flavors within a welcoming local setting.

Great authentic Hakka Yong Taufu. The curry noddle is delicious. The Yong Taufu ( beancurb with stuffed fish and pork meat) is authentic and tasty. I always like to order the chee Cheong fun (thin steam rice roll) with curry. Service is prompt and environment is clean and comfortable. It is authentic that lot of elderly come to this shop.

Came here for lunch as recommended by my colleagues and true enough the parking situation around this area are always chaotic. The yong tau fu and curry noodles here are the highlight. It was generously sized pieces at RM2.30 each and everything tasted fresh. Service was prompt despite the lunch crowd. What I didn’t enjoy was the shared seating arrangement. Some diners just sat down at our table without asking which felt quite rude and made the experience a bit uncomfortable. Nevertheless the food was good enough that I packed a few pieces of yong tau fu home for my kid to enjoy.

The restaurant offers a polished dining experience without losing the essence of the dish. Each piece of Yong Tau Foo is freshly made, with fillings that are flavorful yet delicate, and the broth is light but satisfying. While longtime fans may miss the rustic charm of the original roadside stall, Kiow Jie succeeds in balancing authenticity with modern refinement. Service is attentive, the environment is welcoming, and the food remains true to its Hakka roots. It’s a place where tradition meets contemporary comfort, making it a worthy stop for both nostalgic diners and newcomers seeking a taste of heritage cuisine.

As a YTF & CCF lover, I had to visit this place to try out their food. The curry ccf ordered was certainly delicious- it was spicy yet fragrant with curry taste. The generous crunchy shrimps & fried onions added to the overall goodness. As for the YTF the sizes are quite big and filled generously with meat paste, mostly fish but I suspect some may have some pork meat as well which is good. Overall prices are very reasonable & place is cool & comfy. I would return for sure.
